Herbaria Taking inspiration from the album Les Voyages Parfumés, we will draw a page of an imaginary herbarium, with a hand-drawn typo. Each participant should imagine and represent his plant, and then add different elements telling its story: a tool to cultivate or prepare it, a character who discovered it, an animal, a close-up... We will work on hand-drawn typo, composition and also color. As in the album, we will use thin black pens and color felt pens, choosing a limited color palette, for example 2 complementary colors.

Going Big! Taking Illustration from page to Life-sized Installations In this 3 hour workshop artist and maker Kristi Minchin will provide an introduction to designing 3D artworks for galleries and public spaces. Kristi’s practice focuses on making sculptures for use in exhibitions, festivals and public space installations. Kristi’s creations encourage people to play and interactive with the pieces and overstep the boundaries of tradition gallery-based artworks. During the workshop participants will create a scale model of an installation, this can be in any style of their choosing but the material provided will encourage them to work with simple geometric shapes, similar to Kristi’s own work. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to Kristi’s practice and examples her previous work. Participants will begin by being given a choice of setting for their installation from the following locations: -Music festival: the artwork will be displayed in a field against a backdrop of sunshine, laughter and music. -Gallery: the artwork will be displayed in white cube space and will be visited by adults and children alike. -Community Park: the artwork will be displayed in a laidback industrial car park surrounded by artists studios, restaurants and graffiti. Participants will be encouraged to move between 2D and 3D forms throughout the workshop, starting with loose sketches of what they’d like to create, turning these into 3D components, and then working into the model with drawings and paper craft details. The aim of the workshop is to encourage participants to think about illustration in a new way, taking the artwork off the page and into a new setting. The materials provided will include wooden blocks, shapes and dowel, cardboard tubes, coloured card, markers, straws, polystyrene balls and scale model figures. Let’s get crafty!
